Back

My work permit is approved and now I have a job (and a life) again. I guess this 3-week break taught me the benefits of working… despite the obvious necessities of it, I realise now that it also gives me a purpose. I mean this is where I get to mingle with other people and not just people I meet through patty. Wednesday was the first day I returned, naturally I felt a little bit lost, but the ice was easily broken by an email to one of the guys -this is how we usually communicate since the open-office concept doesn’t tolerate mindless chit-chatings. Had lunch with F and picked up from where we left off..He will be going to Indonesia in April, officially as a photographer for a german red-cross team and inofficially as a backpacker.

Thursday night we went to Andi’s new flat and played Risk together with his flatmates. At the end of the night, one of them asked me where do I come from and interestingly, his ex girlfriend was half Singaporean and half German. This conversation led to the discussion of the prominence of Asian genes - the dark Asian eyes and dark hair, troubled by this I revealed to patty before bedtime how I would not find it so cool if my kids end up looking nearly only like me. Well, but he thought its cool if he is the only unique one in his family :(

Or at the very least, buy a T-shirt.

Mr. Kenneth Jeyaretnam on support for Change(opposition)

If you haven’t already seen this video, please just listen to it. I have heard his speech and managed to pass the link around at that point of time but anyhow, here it is again. A powerful speech by Mr. Kenneth Andrew Jeyaretnam (current Secretary-General of the Reform Party), eldest son of the late Mr. JBJ.

Cast off the slumber into which you have been led for the last 10 years. Wake up to your rights as a human being, to your proper role as citizens of this country.

Mr. J. B. Jeyaretnam, Singapore

I have so much more to update about..

On a less depressing note...

I have made some friends (but not german definition of friends yet) out of my colleagues. I even don’t lunch alone anymore. I would say that is quite a feat. Week 3 and I already have lunch partners! Yay.

These people are the freelancers, meaning they are not bounded like the regulars. Two of them do the motion graphics stuff and the other is part of the editorial team. They do not come to work everyday of the week, can take holidays anytime they like but of course, without pay and security of their jobs.

I actually manage to share quite a bit with them, particularly the motion-graphic-boys. I talk to one of them about politics and design/art. The other about music and relationships.

Now, this is really what I will miss from this internship, should it end so abruptly..
